We’re running a sales-based prize campaign:
Written provides you with the platform to publish and sell, but it’s up to you to decide how to promote your book — on Twitter, Instagram, your website, or anywhere else your readers are. Publish your book, promote your link, and compete for both prizes.
No. Written is your publishing and sales platform, not your marketing agency. That means you decide how to promote your book: tweet about it, post on Instagram, send it to your mailing list, put it on your website — whatever works best for you.
Think of Written as the stage — but you choose how to bring the audience.
A sale is any successful purchase of your book by a reader — whether it's your first edition, an updated version, or any other book you've published with us. We track every transaction on-chain, and it must be a paid transaction (not a free download or giveaway).
Yes. All sales tied to your author account count toward your year-end total, whether they come from one book or many.
You could take the crown with a single breakout hit, or with steady sales across a whole backlist — either way, the prize rewards overall performance, not just one title.
Unfortunately, no.
Only direct purchases from readers count toward the monthly milestone and the year-end tally. When a reader resells a copy of your book to someone else, that transaction generates royalties for you, but it doesn’t count as a “new sale” for the purposes of this prize.
Why? Because the $10,000 reward is designed to reflect how many unique, first-time purchases your work has driven — not how active the resale market is. Resales are still a powerful revenue stream, and they help your book spread organically, but they don’t push your sales counter forward for this specific campaign.
In the case of a tie for the monthly $1,000 prize (i.e., two or more authors sell the exact same number of books in the same calendar month), we’ll look at the timestamp of each author’s final sale. The $1,000 prize will go to the author who hit that number first.
Similarly, if multiple authors finish 2025 with the same total sales, the $10,000 prize will go to the author whose final counted sale was confirmed first, based on the precise timestamp of that transaction.
We know it’s a close race — and we’re tracking it down to the second.
Any kind: fiction or nonfiction, long or short form, original, experimental, previously self-published. The only requirement is that it must be your work and follow Written’s content guidelines.
Yes! Written is non-exclusive. You keep full rights to your work and can treat this as just another revenue stream — but if you want to win the prizes, we recommend you publish a special edition, bonus content, or even a fresh story for Written to boost your performance.
Yes. The top prize is performance-based — but many authors will hit the leaderboard by creatively engaging their niche audiences. This campaign is also about discovering new talents and new skills. Even if you don’t win, your sales and reader base will grow.
We use on-chain transaction data to track all sales. At the end of each month, we’ll:
You can also monitor your own sales directly from your dashboard.
Winners must contact us directly to request their prize. Please note that if no request is made, no payment will be processed.
Once requested, the prize will be transferred in USDC to the winner’s Written wallet, from which funds can be withdrawn using any preferred payment method.
Monthly winners will receive their $1,000 payout within 30 days after their request has been confirmed.
The $10,000 prize will be paid within 30 days of verifying the final sales tally at the close of 2025 and confirming the winner’s request.
Talk with other indie authors, share your journey, and see how to hit $10K.

What counts as a “sale”?
A sale is any successful purchase of your book by a reader — whether it's your first edition, an updated version, or any other book you've published with us. We track every transaction on-chain, and it must be a paid transaction (not a free download or giveaway).
If I sell multiple books, do all those sales count toward the $10,000 prize?
Yes. All sales tied to your author account count toward your year-end total, whether they come from one book or many.
You could take the crown with a single breakout hit, or with steady sales across a whole backlist — either way, the prize rewards overall performance, not just one title.

What kinds of books can I publish?
Any kind: fiction or nonfiction, long or short form, original, experimental, previously self-published. The only requirement is that it must be your work and follow Written’s content guidelines.
How do I participate?
I’m already published somewhere else. Can I still join?
Yes! Written is non-exclusive. You keep full rights to your work and can treat this as just another revenue stream — but if you want to win the prizes, we recommend you publish a special edition, bonus content, or even a fresh story for Written to boost your performance.
Can I participate as a small author with no big following?
Yes. The top prize is performance-based — but many authors will hit the leaderboard by creatively engaging their niche audiences. This campaign is also about discovering new talents and new skills. Even if you don’t win, your sales and reader base will grow.
How will you track who wins?
We use on-chain transaction data to track all sales. At the end of each month, we’ll:
You can also monitor your own sales directly from your dashboard.
How and when will the winners be paid?
Winners must contact us directly to request their prize. Please note that if no request is made, no payment will be processed.
